A question or few for writers
I have a question or few for writers.
- Do you carry on conversations inside your head?
- If so, do you know what that part of your head is going to say?
- Do some of those conversations become part of your books?
- Have you ever dreamed an entire movie and turned it into a book?
- Do people call you odd (if you’re poor) or eccentric (if you’re rich)?
- Are you prone to have pet peeves the size of Godzilla?
Writers seem to be a different breed of human.
The keyboard or pen is our therapist.
Other writers understand our humor.
Sometimes we cry when we have to kill off a character
but
under certain circumstances that can be unproductive.
If you’re up to the challenge and brave a reply, I’m all ears.
That’s ’cause my brain went on vacation.
I can relate to the one about my mind getting scared and running away. When I talk to myself I’m not sure what I’m going to say which makes me wonder who I’m really talking to. Regardless it makes the loneliness of these lockdowns tolerable.

I agree! Especially with wondering who we’re really talking to when there are conversations in our heads.

I am sure people think I am eccentric, Joelle, although they’ve never said so. I think I am just a workaholic who likes to keep busy. I don’t have this issue with characters in my head. Mine stay in my computer and only come out on command.

Being eccentric seems to be a common trait.

Yes to the conversations in my head. I have dreamed whole movies, but they haven’t made it to a book.

My first book was a movie that kept playing over and over again. If the dream hadn’t been so insistent, I wouldn’t have written it down. 😊

I have conversations inside my head in the shower. It’s the perfect place with the hot water beating on me and the white noise of the water.

That sounds SO familiar. I should have listed it. I’ll do that when my brain returns from vacation. 😊

I regularly have conversations in my head between fictional characters and also real-life characters, which is usually just me saying things I’d hoped I’d said.
I’ve had a dream, three dreams in one actually, that formed the basis for a story I recently completed the first draft of. If anyone has called me Odd, it’s not too to my face. So far, anyway.

Congratulations on finishing the first draft of a story.
It’s easier to hide the oddness when it’s inside, but there will be a time when someone says, “You’re strange!”
Consider it a compliment. 😊

Cheers. And thank you for asking such interesting questions. I’ll take it as a compliment. And smile when someone does say ‘You’re Strange’.

A very long-standing friend ( from school, no less) recently told me I’d always been a little odd. Yes, I took it as a compliment.

I dreamed a whole book one night. I woke up excited, but it evaporated so quickly I never managed to get my pen and paper to write it down.
I have conversations, not just in my head, but aloud. I talk to the birds and the squirrels that live in the park behind my house. They don’t have much to say.
I also talk to my charaters in my head, going through what they should say in various conversations. Thet seem to agree, but then, when I come to write said conversations, they surprise me by ad libbing!

Isn’t it exciting to watch the words fly on the page and wonder what’s going to happen next?
I talk to my dogs and cats. They’re great listeners. I’ll have to try talking to birds and squirrels — they might chatter back. 😊

The squirrels do, but I suspect it’s telling me off for being there.
I did once have a conversation with a robin, though. Not sure what he was talking about, but whenever I spoke to him, he tweeted a reply. It was a great feeling, talking to him.

They don’t always, but sometimes they’re in the mood for conversation.

Godzilla is a good friend of mine. Great post. 🙂

Thanks.
Godzilla is a quirky sort, thick skinned but a fiery temper on that one. Not a being you want to mess with.

Respect. Requires a /lot/ of respect. And, ah, space. That tail… 😦

No, no,no, no, no and no. Which might explain why I didn’t ‘always want to write’ and only stuck my toe in the water after retiring.
I love each one of those comment graphics – classic!
If only I could think up lines like those.

If a meme makes me laugh, I know it’s the right one and it will make others laugh, too.

I am held captive by my mind and I’m not trying to hard to get away.

I love that explanation! 😊

Yep, characters chatter away to each other – sometimes usefully. Other conversations don’t seem to have anything to do with what I’m writing – maybe a future book?

It is so much fun to write someone out of a book. It’s like being the god of pixels, molding words to your will.

I’m always having conversations in my head, and I did dream a story I put into my blog as I haven’t written any books.

I made a post about one of my dreams, too, and found he sarcasm in it. Dreams rarely make much sense. Sometimes that’s all ya got in ya. 😊

There is only silence at me. Lol I also dont bury the letter i wrote to people i hate. I am always sending them by fax. Lol After that i am always calming down, and very happy too. Have a beautiful Friday, Joelle, and enjoy a nice weekend! Michael

An anonymous fax. Never thought of that. It scream out, “I know where you live.” 😊

Lol – What “anonymous”? No, with full name. I have around 15 fax accounts, and three fax machines. :-)) The last printed letter i had sent in 2015. 😉 Psst: In correspondence with officials here you have to deal with their way of document management. After two week a cause is going back into the archive. If you want to make trouble, your letter – here fax – should arrive just one day after the cause is on the way into the archive. Lol Enjoy your weekend, Joelle!

Lol – You always need to be prepared “against” the old Prussian way of life, our officials honoring too much. xx

1. Sometimes. More often than not they’re debates, though.
2. I never stopped to think about that. Wouldn’t that bring forth the dialogue then?
3. No, (rather different genres) but they do make it into some of my posts.
4. I wish.
5. Yes.
6. Oh, YES!
The part about writing letters and burning “them” made me laugh. Good one.

1, yes I do , they are much more interesting than the ones I have with other people.
2, No never but it always impresses me with it’s wisdom!
3, they would if I had ever had a book published. Some conversations are in my W.I.Ps.
4, No , scenes from movies I made up but never a whole movie.
5, People often just ignore me and don’t call me anything.
6, Yes indeed, don’t get me started 💜
