The sleepless occasional poet
My cat can sleep,
My dog can sleep,
their human subject — not a peep
of sleep that is,
without a doubt
a nemesis I can’t punch out.
I toss, I turn
but never find
that wond’rous art called “peace of mind,”
that piece of brain
works not…it seems
a good night’s sleep is in my dreams.

It sucks, doesn’t it? I worked a later shift yesterday and got to bed at 10. At 3am my eyes pop open and I tried for 90 minutes to go back to sleep. I actually get so anxious that I have to get up and move or I feel like I’m going to explode. I have an 8 hour shift ahead of me watching 8 boys. It might be a long day lol. I hope your day goes well.

It seems that 3 is the hour that strikes most when it comes to insomnia. But I have gone to bed at 8, awakened at 12 and couldn’t get back to sleep until 4. 🙂

it is the struggle we have! I try all kinds of hour combinations thinking I will find the sweet spot, but it has not happened yet.

hahah Loved it! But, of course, sorry you can’t sleep.

I had another 2 hours sleep, so I was able to get an entire 5 hours and 30 minutes of it. Better than being up all night. 🙂

Yep. Had that last nite too. Maybe the weather ???? I finally gave up and played smartphone
games until well after 3. I’m luckier than most … retired and can nap a little today. Hope your day goes better than your nite. BTW … I like the rhymes.

Thanks. 🙂
It was, indeed, the weather that kept me up. Yesterday was way too cold for Florida in June, and last night it was humid. That makes the cold feel even colder.

I love that cat picture. It so great you can’t sleep….. is it you can’t switch off your brain or the dog that still barks? Cheers,H

I am having more and more trouble sleeping as I get older. Ugh! At least your insomnia helped to produce a wonderful poem! Mine just produces tiredness.

Listening to meditation music on YouTube helps sometimes (528mhz). Other times, nothing helps, especially if there is a story in my head that won’t stop until I write it down. 🙂

Love this poem! I’ve been away from the blog for a while and you have really blossomed in that time. I may have to move back into the area…like a mosquito waiting on the ceiling until you just…start..to..doze.off…then BUZZES AROUND TO ANNOY YOU…LOL!

I would love to be annoyed by your buzzing! Please, join the fun!
