He loved listening to the solitude; birds singing, the way a breeze felt as it whispered through pine needles.
Thirty years of peace, broken to pieces in seconds by one new neighbor.
A mile down the road, music for the tone deaf, often referred to as Rap, blasted into the night, stopping at 22:00 hours.
He’d asked the family to please respect their neighbors. Their response? “Stupid redneck! Get off my property.”
“As you wish,” former Master Sergeant Murphy had replied.
Under a full moon, he wandered through the woods carrying a sniper’s rifle. Tonight, the misery would end.
Justified!!!

Ooh, this is a controversial topic. Not sure what to say, haha.

It’s a story about contradictions, and a cautionary tale: Never move to the country thinking you can ruin the peace of people who moved there for a reason. You never know what they have been through — or what they are capable of doing.

I assume that most of us reading this would not condone violence and certainly couldn’t imagine taking another’s life. And yet I am thinking we all are siding with the Sgt. Murphy and are glad for what he is about to do, continuing to serve his community and doing the tough work that others won’t. Talk about truth in fiction. Provocative flash.

Thanks. 🙂
Contradiction resides in all of us. I think of the TV series and movies where 100 extras are killed off to get to the guy who has killed millions, but when our hero is about to kill the bad guy someone shouts, “No. If you do this, you’ll become just like him.”
What about the other 100 people he killed. What were they, totum poles? 😀

Many contradictions — peaceful birdwatcher/nighttime stalker, wolrdly new neighbor/clueless, country/rap.

Thought provoking. A little respect for others goes a long way.

You are correct — respect for others goes a long way. There is too little respect for others in this world these days.
