Oklahoma
Most of my dreams lately have been about living in Oklahoma. You have no idea how frightening that is to me. I’ve been to Oklahoma 4 times…
- when my sister lived in Tulsa several decades ago,
- when my daughter moved there for a job opportunity,
- when I met her fiance and his 2 children,
- and when she married her fiance, the love of her life.
I love my daughter dearly, and I understand how love can compel you to places you never dreamed you’d go. After all, this Florida native lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin for years for the same reason.
But…but I just can’t keep this inside any longer! If God wanted to punish me, the best way to do it would be to banish me to Oklahoma until I died of boredom.
My scare for the day was an email from VL with the heading, “I think it may be time to move to Oklahoma.”
My heart sank to my feet as I wondered, “Should I call 911 and have her Baker Acted?”
Thankfully, it was a forward. I sent it to my daughter and asked if it was true. She said the open carry is true, but she’ll have to ask her husband about the rest of the email. Here are some of the highlights from that email:
- Oklahoma is the only state that Obama did not win or even carry one county in the last election.
- Oklahoma passed, 37 to 9, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. (HB 1330)
- Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen.
- Recently they passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegals to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes.
- Several weeks ago, they passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not under the Federal Government directives, joining Texas, Montana, and Utah as the only states to do so.
- The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns. Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles.
- Just this month, the state has voted and passed a law that ALL drivers’ license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language.
Now, being a feminist conservative, I have to say that I agree with Oklahoma on the above issues, even if I don’t want to live there.
However there is something about Oklahoma that not many people know. The following is from an article in the OK Gazette:
“Oklahoma’s Muslim community observes the fast of Ramadan this month, they are also taking time to reflect on the growth of their community statewide.
There are currently five mosques in the Oklahoma City metro area, including one in Norman and one in Edmond. Some of the growth has come from immigrants from south and central Asia as well as the Middle East, but there has been a surprising surge in converts from two other demographics: white females and Hispanic families.”
Personally, I’m not sure what to think. Does Oklahoma drive white women and Hispanic families insane? Is the state simply schizophrenic? Does the flat, boring, uninteresting landscape turn people into zombies?
I would like to say that if the US were constipated and God needed a place to insert the enema tube it would be Oklahoma, but I can’t say that because I don’t want my daughter to stop speaking to me. If she stopped speaking to me, I would go crazy.
If I go crazy, will I have to move to Oklahoma?
I’m not sure I like where I’m going with this…
Reba McEntire is from Oklahoma… And so is Garth Brooks… I did say “from”, Didn’t I?

There’s a reason for that. I’m sure there are people who feel the same way about Florida and Nebraska. I’ve never been to Nebraska so I wouldn’t know what to feel about it.

Extremely similar to Oklahoma. Where it isn’t flat its flatter. The Midwestern ranch culture is also flat and colorless. Midwesterners can trace their heritage back to the wagon train drop outs, Those who couldn’t face the challenge of the Rocky Mountains & Beyond. Most who live here seem to like that, even though talk of “getting out” is extremely popular. But, true to their heritage, most drop out rather than escape.
True story! 🙂

I suppose it could be worse–we could have been born in Australia, able to trace our ancestors back to a murderer and a thief sent there when it was used as a prison. 🙂

Down under?
I’ve wondered how many of the “criminals” there really deserved that title.

I’ve read that many were simply guilty of being poor… As well as political prisoners.
