Why had I allowed her behind the wheel of my beloved Isuzu Trooper?
Teeth gritted…I knew it was coming.
“Bird!” My sister yelled out, slamming on the brakes. “Would you look at that raven!”
“Do I have to?” I grumbled.
Driven, she travelled another hundred feet along the lonely dirt road.
“Bird!”
While she stared through binoculars at another flock of feathered vermin, I opened the passenger’s door and jumped out.
“What’s wrong?”
“As if you didn’t know!” I replied, glaring at her.
“Normal people love birds!”
“I’m tired of flying into the windshield. I’m not a passenger pigeon.”
feathered vermin…. that say all for the disinterest in birds.

This is particularly funny to me because I am in a family of birders. I, myself, might have also inherited the disorder.

It’s one of those things that’s funny later on, but not when it’s happening. It take another person who has been around
Unless you’ve lived around one, it’s hard to imagine anyone could be so ravenous for anything “bird.” 🙂

We take trips just to see birds. Mom and I don’t live in the same state, but we will meet for a bird trip somewhere in the country.

I don’t despise all birds. I have a friend with a bird that lives a hundred years or more. He’s a stitch!
I’m not a fan of birdwatching and especially not a fan of seagulls (I worked near a marina once, and umbrella’s aren’t always used for rain). It’s fantastic when one birdwatcher can have fun with another, but not so great for a non-birdwatcher bored into near insanity. 🙂

I can understand that. My infatuation grew from the desire to take amazing photos. It’s not easy to photograph birds. The challenge keeps me interested. And the competition with my family to photograph rare birds

I once pointed out a bird to my sister and said, “A flamingo.” She was so excited and said, “That’s a roseate spoonbill!!!”
Looked like a flamingo to me. 🙂

Flamingos are now quite rare in the U.S. That would have been a huge find.

Haha. I love the words “passenger pigeon.” Have you travelled with your sister since?

Several times, but we have an agreement about birding. She does it when I’m doing something else (like writing inside a hotel room). 🙂

So much to snort-laugh over! The cartoon, the feathered vermin, and the passenger pigeon. You embellished well to add color and humor to your BOTS. I always think neighbors must think I’m spying because I keep the binoculars handy in the window. 🙂
