He looks out the window, contentment wrapped in fur, as I work on a report. The moment I’m intent on the wording of a particular sentence, he’s up.
I now have a cat covering half of a 32 inch monitor. I lift my hand to pet him and he swats it away with a soft paw.
The message is clear: No claws, “I want a treat,” claws out, “I don’t want to be petted.”
The treat is given several feet away from my computer screen, and I stroke his softness.
I look at the sentence with a fresh perspective.
See, they help, not interfere. He knew you needed that break and new look at your work.
(Do you ever just hand over the keyboard, let the cat do the reports?)

I have to be diligent about how close his paws are to the keyboard. Several months ago, I had been working hard on a book. I was 4 hours into it when Chilly Coon Kitty bapped his foot on my key board several times. He managed to highlight and delete every word and then save the entire (blank) manuscript. I was stressing out over it when I remembered something about restoring the last saved version. I have my computer set up for autosave, so I only lost 10 minutes of work.

Our fur babies have a good knack for offering a new perspective. Enticing us to rest and step away, to heal from the work. This is a cosy office, the colleague is one of the best kinds.

Indeed they can be healers. When he disappeared for a day, the entire house felt too empty, and my desk lost its soul.

I feel that deeply. We lost a fur baby to the rainbow bridge just last weekend. They take something with them, but they leave a whole lotta love in their wake. I’m glad your pup returned safe. Here’s to many more happy and loving years.

Thanks. 😊
My kitty is presently lurking over my keyboard…waiting for the chance to strike it.
Good kitty.

I love the shift in perspective following the encounter.

Oh, my cat loves to sit on my computer or notebook when I’m working and she wants attention. Very relatable story.

Their purrs are very calming and at times a saving grace. I, and many others who have watched a cat push everything on a floor because it was in the way, believe that a cats purr is the reason the species still lives. 😂

Haha. They can be so incredibly insistent. But they can be so incredibly loving, too. And their purrs really are the best.
