2021 : It’s 2020 on steriods.
I’m beginning to think there’s a lot of truth to that.
Instead of presenting you with the details of my latest 1st world problem, I’ll summarize it for you:
Son of a B
D@%^#D
Fracking
OW!!!!
The 5th lumbar has a nerve root. That nerve root is inflamed. My new companion has become an ice pack, 3 ibuprofen every 6 hours, and pain. Lots and lots of pain shooting down the butt, hip, thigh, shins, leg, foot, and toes.
Some people feel numbness. That would be nice. Right now, it’s constant back pain with intermittent electric shocks that force my left leg to buckle.
With 11 dogs in the house who all want to “help”, trying to walk when one leg just doesn’t want to work correctly is like being on a rollercoaster with no seatbelt.
Will it kill me? No — not physically. There isn’t a single place I need to walk where there aren’t walls, counters, shelves…something to catch my fall besides the floor. But the dogs aren’t used to the meaner side of me.
I’ve had to shout “NO” at a dog preparing to leap on me. Said dog slinks off to one of the living room chairs or onto my bed. I don’t like making my doggies feel bad for just wanting to show their love.
What, you might asked, caused this pain in the butt to happen?
I have absolutely no friggin’ idea. But given the way 2021 has started, I’m expecting Godzilla to emerge from the ocean any time now.
In the meantime, I might not be posting or reading as much until I can sit for more than 1/2 hour at a time.
Sorry, I shouldn’t say I like your post but rather wish you a recovery. Backs can be exactly how you explained. Take care.

Just one of those “happenings” in life that help me to have more appreciation for the “good times.” 😐

I hope you recover as soon as possible! At least we got training from 2020. I am still hopeful that this year will be better for all of us.

My right shoulder has a problem like that. You think maybe it won’t act up today. Then you move your limb exactly the wrong way and a lightning bolt shoots down the trouble making limb. Surprise! Now sit down and DON’T MOVE.

Hope it eases fast, Joelle… back pain is awful and seems inescapable once it starts…

What Mary Smith and you have is life threatening. What I have is, quite literally, a pain in the butt; a 1st world problem that will eventually pass.
Sometimes it helps to write about “the little things” and put them into perspective. 😊

When you are in the middle of them, they don’t seem so little… And ight at the moment, my own duff spine is giving me far more to grumble about than the cancer 😀

I “liked” this — with trepidations. Are you having inflamed nerves, too?

I wish there were a “concern” button to go along with the “like” button. You have enough stuff to deal with, you don’t need more.

I’m sort of used to the back 😉

I believe that if you have to live with something like back pain long enough, you learn how to do it. Not that it’s pleasant, however; I understand why that happens.
I had scleral buckles sewn onto each eye 20 years ago and my body has compensated by ignoring the pain of having a rubber band wrapped around each eye.

I agree, it is only when the usual sensations change or go away that you remember what it ‘used to’ feel like… and that can be quite a shock to the system 😉

Exactly!
I wish I could meet you some day — perhaps when the dust no longer surrounds our spirits.

One day… 🙂
It may have to be then… I doubt I’ll be going far now, even when travel is allowed again.

Air travel is out of the question for me anymore. If I had several million, I might pay for a cruise across the pond, but at this moment, I can’t afford to purchase several million in monopoly money. 😊
You and I have travel restrictions for different reasons, but the result is the same.

I think we share a couple of restrictions there 😉

Good luck with that. In my case it’s often been a twisted night’s sleep (or several) with a dog in an awkward position. (We only have two dogs these days though – and they’re titchy.) Sleeping on one side with a pillow between my legs helped me. Hope yours is nothing more serious.

I just found a “more comfortable” place on my desk to plop my leg. It provides a little relief. Before there were painkillers, people had to go through these kinds of things without relief. That’s probably why alcohol and marijuana were so popular in the past.

I’ve oft heard the phrase, “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Personally, in my life, the phrase could read, “If it hurts like hell, it’s probably minor.”

Yea… sorry to hear that. My year hasn’t been perfect, either, and it’s only February… But I’m one of those people who wasn’t looking forward to 2021 because it “has to be better.” I’m always a skeptic when it comes to that. It can ALWAYS get worse. Maybe all those people who say that you attract what you think about are right? Maybe by trying to prepare for the worst, I am getting just that… Ehhh… I just realized how I hijacked this comment and made it all about me. I hope you get that pain under control and treat the root cause.

Don’t worry about that. It helps to know that other people have similar thoughts about 2021. I don’t consider it hijacking at all –you’re simply substantiating my own thoughts about it.

I’m so sorry, Joelle, and hope it eases soon. Living with pain that doesn’t shift is total crap. As is making your doggies feel bad when they want to leap on you to show their love – but they’ll understand and forgive you.

There are too many people who take out their anger on their dogs. I look at my doggies and see more love inside them than in a large city.

My like is just to show support. I do hope I do not annoy you by saying I can empathize. I have broken my back twice. I have had to have three operations the second time. I can understand the pain you are suffering I still get nerve pain …it awful. Those beautiful dogs of yours will understand, they love you. I do hope you can improve soon 💜

You are well within your rights to say that you empathize. After breaking your back twice, you are living proof that we find ways to compensate for conditions that give us constant pain. It appears there are a lot of writers who experience it. 💜

I couldn’t sit for more than 5 minutes! Had surgery in 2011. Lie flat on your back, a pillow under your thighs. And oxy. I know. Cheers,H

Yours was much worse.
When I’m sitting, it’s with an ice pack on my back to keep the swelling down. That helps more than anything.
