Ruins
The library of Alexandria burns.
We surf for information
Starved of knowledge.
Atlantis sweeps away ruins of history.
Reimagined priests worship
Brahman’s sacrifice.
Ten thousand years, Sahara’s secrets waited.
We bury our lives inside
Our technology.
Wow.

I remember reading about a diode imbedded in a rock supposedly a million years old. I began to think about what, if anything, from our present civilization might survive us. Most of what we’ve built will be dust in 1000 years.

Yes indeed, I think we will be wiped from the face of the earth and totally forgotten!!

The digital revolution will make it look like we just suddenly vanished.

As old as homo sapiens is, it makes me wonder how many times we’ve done so and little is left behind of the civilizations that arrived before us.

Exactly. They get to a certain level and all the technology is literally immaterial.

One can’t imagine how much information was lost when Alexandria was burned.

I still remember the first time I heard about the knowledge that was lost when the library burned; Carl Sagan’s series, “Cosmos.”
There was also a golden age in southern Spain, in the 8th century. Abd-ar Rahman’s dynasty lasted until the mid 15th century. Another cautionary tale as to what can be lost. Centuries lof knowledge were carted away and burned.

You’re welcome. 🙂
My book, Immortal Sands, features a city under the Sahara. Many years ago, I had a lucid dream about dune buggies on the Sahara, and a mile underneath was an ancient city. The city that I describe in my book was in that dream.
