Ronovan Writes poetry challenges: Décima : Gift. Haiku : Foolish.
THE QUICK DESCRIPTION OF HOW TO WRITE A DÉCIMA:
- There are 10 lines of poetry that rhyme.
- 8 syllables per line.
- There is a SET RHYMING PATTERN we must stick to. ABBAACCDDC OR two stanzas of ABBA/ACCDDC.
Décima (8 syllables, 10 lines, rhyme pattern: abbaaccddc)
Today’s Décima challenge is the word GIFT. This word must be one of the B line words. Then the other B line(s) word(s) must rhyme with GIFT.
This week’s haiku word is: Foolish
For instructions about how to write a decima, or a Haiku, go to the Ronovan Writes blog site.

Décima
Beauty is first a fleshly thing,
our youth is but a fleeting gift,
and many times creates a rift
a soul has trouble distancing.
The flesh refuses listening
when our thoughts tell us, “It is time
to go within, you’ve passed your prime,
the flesh preserved is not your goal,
you must begin to feed the soul,
and then you will you become sublime.”
Haiku
Foolish is the one
wanting without giving thanks
for his gift of life.
I like those last lines. Good advice.

Thanks. 🙂
Sometimes it just flows out. Most times I fall short of taking my own advice.

You are so kind, Simon.
There is a story my mother told me when I was a child: The hope diamond was transported overseas in a plain brown wrapper and sent 4th class. There was a slight truth embedded in this tale. The Hope diamond was sent to the Smithsonian Institute 11/10/1958 through U.S. Mail. Anyone looking for a diamond would have passed it by, not knowing it was insured for $1 million as Specimen #217868 4th class in a plain box.
The gift inside us is priceless, and the worth of it cannot be measured by the torn, tattered and wrinkled “wrapping paper” that surrounds it.

You are among those few who can understand the concept before you reach that rift in life.
Thanks.
