99 word prompt : music
September 10, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that includes something heard on the radio. It can be from any station or era. What is heard? A song, announcement, ad? Think of how radio connects people and places. Go where the prompt leads!

The first time I heard the continental divide of music, I was at a stoplight that stayed red for so long it tried my patience.
“Bye Bye Miss American Pie…”
The light turned green just as the song began, and I shifted into first gear. I drove a Nash Metropolitan, not a Chevy, and there was no levee in sight.
Age 21, with an entire lifetime ahead of me, the song was screaming out a message I was much too young to understand.
It’s been almost 50 years. Will our republic lose control of the plane in this battle?
Didn’t have time to watch the video earlier and just came back now to watch it. Now the song makes total sense! Thanks for pointing that out to me over at the ranch. Have a great weekend.

Whoa. Never saw the video before. Wow. As if the song wasn’t powerful enough without those images. Thank you.

Someone went to a lot of trouble to put it all together, and that’s why I shared it. Thanks for watching it.

That’s such a defining song, Joelle. Not just marking the passing of music greats and leaders, it feels like it continually marks the passing of eras.

Wow, Joelle. What a great flash, and a great lead-in to the video. I’d always loved and sang along with that song and knew it involved the death of Buddy Holly, but hadn’t known the rest of the significance. How powerful. Thanks for sharing the video.

Thanks. 🙂 I did the same thing — sang along to the song without knowing the depth of it.

Interesting. Thanks for the background on the song, too.

Without the song, the post would make no sense. It’s all about the music. 🙂

Before I watch the video… I wonder if it is the same as what I was told it meant…
(About the death of JFK… ) Ah… I remembered some things but the video made it clearer.
I was a young teen during that time. Thank you.
