99 word prompt : Justice for all
June 4, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story about justice for all. It does not have to take place in America. Injustice exists anywhere. What is the story behind justice for all? Go where the prompt leads!

Grandpa Buckley had never tired of telling the story. “My Irish great, great, great grandmother was a slave in the south. My great, great grandmother was paired with the new black slaves. Her children escaped and Indians took them in.”
“I know,” I’d said, rolling my eyes. “Buckley means servant. The name was handed down by my great grandmother who was sold to a French fur trapper. She escaped. Their five sons became Buckley’s.”
I thought of him when I opened the results of my DNA test, and gasped: 2% Nigerian, 5% Cameroon, 4% Native American.
DNA doesn’t lie.
Thanks for participating, Joelle but I was preemptive and hit publish on accident! It was a raw draft and I’ll publish it at 00:23 hours on June 4.
The Irish women gave birth to slaves and disappeared. Cromwell’s men scoured the coast and “Barbadosed” young women and girls. Slavery has its ugly secrets but truth has a way of coming out.

Thanks.
The terrible truth is that slavery is still happening on a larger scale than ever. We call it human trafficking — too kind a name for what it really is. It’s not just prostitution and it knows now color or creed.

I’m not sure what to do now that I let the “prompt” genie out of the bottle.

Actually, Charli accidently hit the publish button a few days early and I just happened to be up when she did it. 🙂

She had children with the slaves and the natives. But where does Cameroon come in?

I was at 101 words and had to take 2 out. Those 2 words were “Bantu people.”

Cameroon/Bantu people in Africa. I only had 99 words and had to take two words out.
