Senseless @!%&$ sarcasm: Vincible
At the age of 14, I wanted to become a gymnast.
Having parents living at the poverty line — and the athletic ability of a land turtle — that wasn’t going to happen.
At the age of 22, I wanted to be an ice skater, but…Olga Korbut! The dream of being a gymnast didn’t want to die.
I’ve been doing so well at Yoga, being a gymnast crept into my daydreams again. I’ve fallen and easily bounced back upward, many times, to the amazement of others.
I thought, “If I start taking lessons now, I can compete in the senior Olympics within a few years.”
Well…this morning I bent down and, although I’ve done the same thing a million times, the odds were a million to one that something was going to give.
That “something” was my low back. It shouted, “CROINK!!!” and I shouted, “What the hell?” Followed by *%$+#^#@&%(# son of a @!%&$ when I tried to stand.
For the foreseeable future, I won’t even be able to do simple yoga moves like this one:
I’ll be doing yoga like a man.
Yes, one wrong move and I went from invincible to vincible in 4 seconds.
I suppose if I’m the only person in a nursing home 30 years from now who can still do a yoga headstand; that’s good enough,
Hope you feel better soon. 💖

Thanks. 🙂
What hurts the most isn’t throwing my back out, it’s the dose of reality therapy I had to take.

You’re absolutely right. This image we create in our mind of ourselves is quite far from the real us. And it hurts when we find out.

Thanks.
It will get better, but my dream of being something I’m not has been dashed again. 🙂

You really are so funny, Joelle. I hope you back improved quickly. I have also done things like this because I forget I am over 40 now.

It’s either laugh, or turn into a grump-bucket. I’d rather find the humor in a situation and help other people find humor, too.

If that’s not what gymnasts wear anymore, what DO they wear?
Yoga is too advanced for me, so kudos to you for going at it.
Injuries suck. I’m not a professional athlete or anything, but have recently started… training to become one. (It’s never too late, am I right?) And then a part of my body gave out. A month of no training. Once I got back in the saddle, I noticed all the progress was wiped. And the possibility of recurring injury is high. F%^^&$^&!

That’s the kind of stuff that definitely sucks the life out of us. I’ve seen athletes with knee and ankle braces, and some have surgery. Many recover, but the older we get, the harder it is to bounce back.

Ha ! A month ago I ruptured my right bicep tendon putting a small load of laundry in the top dryer at the laundromat The orthopedic surgeon said that “at your age we usually don’t do anything about it unless you want” Which was fine by me

Don’t you just love the “at your age” answer? I love your sentiment, “…fine by me.”
