“Thank you, Ron, for a place to stay until I can afford my own,” Jean said.
“Never thought Dan would leave you for someone his daughter’s age.”
“Not the first time he’s cheated on me. We had five kids, he was a good provider, and I looked the other way.”
“He waited until they all graduated from college to ask for a divorce. You won’t get much in a no-fault state.”
“The house is in both our names, so I’ll get half.”
Ron hoped she’d fall in love with him and this might be more than a simple interlude.
Sweet, but I also have seen many wait for such interludes to grow and usually they do not. There is realism in this piece.

Most women who have been married for decades don’t remarry. I remember asking a friend’s mother why she hadn’t remarried. It was the first time (but not the last) that I heard someone say, “At my age, all men want is a nurse or a purse.”
There is wisdom in those words.

There is some realism for sure. I know some women who have been impoverished by such events and some who were enriched, not financially, but personally.

I have been both, at different times of my life. 🙂 When you’ve had 5 husbands, each experience is different.
