SENSELESS SUNDAY SARCASM : 4-footed family
It may coma come as no surprise to frequent reads of my blog that 3:00 am and I aren’t strangers.
Unfortunately, when I’m ready to sleep again, my bed looks like this:
The dude stretched out as if he’s owned the place since he was a puppy just moved in a few months ago. That’s as long as it takes for them to go from abandoned to acclimated.
All of our 4-footed companions are extortionists rescues. You wouldn’t know it by their attitude.
Want to get fed?
Just hijack my 32″ monitor. While you’re at it, trample my important papers with your muddy paws.
When I vacate my seat, it doesn’t stay empty for long. Here you have the Tiny Terror refusing to allow his human to use more than 1/5 of her chair.

This one has me on the edge of my seat
They’re supposed to be our 4-footed companions.
Instead, we’re their 2-footed servants.

Tag-teamed by a dog and cat
Want a protector?
Instead, you’ll get this:
Want a quiet cuddler who likes to sleep in on the weekends?
Instead, you’ll get this — at all hours of the night.
Want a laid-back kitty cat?
Instead, you’ll get this…
You’ll try everything within your financial limits, and outside them, to please your diva.
Before you know it, you’re serving one rescue, then two…
then you have to buy another bed.
You can’t pick your family. All you can do is love them.
I’m very good at sleeping in the foetal position, and even if I can manage to stretch my legs out, I soon have a four legged buffer following the same lines. Bless her.

That sounds very, very familiar. 🙂

wow is that five rescue dogs and how many cats … impressive that you are able to save so many but must cost a small fortune! Here they have a strict limit on numbers you can keep unless you have acreage …

We have a couple of acres of land in the country. People dump dogs and cats out in this area. There are predatory birds out here with wing spans of 5 – 6 feet. A small kitten wouldn’t stand a chance unless someone heard them crying first.
Coon Cat and Other Brother Coon Cat (the one in front of my computer) were found by a neighbor when she heard OBCC’s yowling. They were about 2 months old. The Tiny Terror wandered up to our back step, a 6-week old kitten with no fear of the dogs.

wow glad you have the property to keep so many, now you need a spare bed … it saddens me that people would dump animals, why not leave them at a shelter … 🙂

There are many reasons, and one of them could be laziness, the other could be the attitude they’re met with at the shelter. If the area provided free neuter/spay, or the cost was low enough for poor people to afford, more people might be amenable to doing it.

agree with that, we have a few days twice a year where vets offer it at a very low price … does keep more animals out of shelters.

Nice story. Rescue dogs are the best dogs, which we realized after shelling out a few hundred for an English Bred Lab, 15 years ago. When discussing the differences between dogs and cats, always remember that dogs have masters and cats have staff. I think I will post some recent photos of my “fur family” later today.

Over the years, I’ve met people who only want purebreds. The medical conditions that run in each breed can be costly. Most mutts don’t have that problem.
posting some of your photos sounds like a plan. Our fur families certainly give us plenty of laughter, tears…and stories.

And we give thanks every day that they rescued us.

I especially love that pic of the little Black terror all curled up.

After fighting for a corner of my chair, I looked over at the contented Tiny Terror and just HAD to take a picture. Thanks for loving it as much as I did. 🙂

I just spent an hour trying to work with Oliver lying across my hands getting annoyed as I typed. LOL

OBCC was lying between my monitor and keyboard and kept pushing keys with a foot as I tried to type — while pretending to sleep. 🙂 Some days they’re so funny!

Indeed :). Oliver’s new favourite place is right across my arms as I get ready to type. He must know I’ve been getting slightly annoyed with WordPress and my new host the last week and apply calm purrs to it. 😹

It seems the more in a hurry or frustrated we get, the more they want to be in exactly the wrong place — we want to push them away, and then they purr. We have to add guilt on top of our frustrations.

That’s exactly how I felt. Guilty. 🙈

We actually did have two queen sized beds for us and three Rottweilers and a wonderful pitty mix. Now we only have two rescues and one weighs only 20 pounds. But she is a good snuggler and feels like a 50 pound weight when she sleeps on my stomach. They fill our lives.

They certainly do fill our lives. The ony 4-footed companions in this household that are 20 pounds are the 2 coon cats. Other Brother Coon Cat is presently sleeping next to the monitor as I type. His peacefulness brings calm to the room. Dingo Mutt is on his favorite Pillow, and our midnight-black Rottie is stretched out on a soft bed.
It makes me smile just to see them sprawled around me.

I think I know what your sleep disorder is. First I think you need to buy yourself your OWN bed.

LOL! That might help, but then they’d just gravitate to wherever I’m sleeping, or whine until I let them in. 🙂
