January 18, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes boots. Whose boots are they, where do they go and what is their significance? Go where the prompt leads.
“You look like you’re going out riding,” A woman in church wear with short grey hair chuckled.
“I’ve been on a horse 6 times in my life,” I replied.
“Then why are you wearing that?” she smirked
“It’s 50 degrees in Florida. I’m cold. When you’re cold, you wear boots. If I walked down the street wearing a bustle and long dress, I’d deserve to be laughed at. But if a woman wore that on that same street 120 years ago,” I said, pointing at her dress, “She’d be hauled off to the nearest institution for the feeble minded.”
LOL. Fashion is all in the time it happens and when its cold who gives a hoot.

I used to get laughed at when I wore a snowsuit between classes in the upper mid-west in February. The ones laughing at me were shivering in their short coats, short skirts and nylons.
I was laughing, too. The difference? I was warm. 🙂

I’m with you. A friend once told me to be a woman you had to suffer to look beautiful – the high heels, the cold etc. Like you I’d prefer to be myself and comfortable.

Such very true words, you should be able to dress how you wish (of course within limits) when you go to a place of worship.

I agree that people should be able to wear what they want. But I’d imagine the original purpose of clothing used to be to keep bugs off and stay warm.
120 years ago, if you walked down the street in a knee-length dress and heels, that was risque and you could get arrested. Can you imagine a preacher from the 1800’s being time traveled to present day Wal-Mart? How times change.
