“Only in Florida,” the man with a thick Boston accent scowled.
I continued to admire a well-decorated coconut palm while chuckling at the yellow hibiscus design on his red shirt and khaki shorts.
“What’s your problem?” he demanded.
I pulled up the collar on my white, winter coat and said, “Tourists.”
Boom
followed by the crinkle of glass shattering. A frantic car alarm swallowed up the sounds of Carols coming from speakers adhered to a light post. I turned toward a very expensive sports car and laughed.
“What’s so funny!” he yelled out.
“People who park under coconut trees.”
Love your decorated palm tree. Funny how we all have a thing for tourists (I don’t mind them too much). We have a problem parking in tourist times and so many ideas have been mooted on how to deal with it including issuing passport to enter our area. I will now write and suggest coconut palms.

I lived in South Florida before and have seen that damage first hand — and as it happened. It was an amusing fact that only a tourist parked under a coconut tree. 🙂

Ha, ha! I’m finding out the UP version of that is parking on the streets. Seriously, there’s no street parking in the winter. If you do, the “boom” you hear is that of a snowplow taking out your vehicle. So last night, we had out-of-towners knocking on our door to ask if they could park in front of our garage. It wasn’t our garage, but someone who lives several blocks away. Only in the UP do people own random garages all over town for winter parking. Luckily, it’s smalltown enough that we passed along the owner’s phone number. Your flash made me laugh!

Thanks. 🙂
I believe that every place that has tourists has funny stories about things the locals know but not their guests. 🙂

There are people up north who love cold weather and can’t wait to do winter sports. I like to walk when it’s 90F with 100% humidity. A true Floridian’s idea of hell is Siberia. 🙂

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! BOOM! What an explosive tale! Loved it. On our travels, we are tourists to w whole lot of people, hope we don’t elicit the same reaction in them 🙂
