“Mom,” Noelle said, her voice lilting. “He looks just like Joel!”
Ralphina scampered over to her 13 year old twins.
Try not to scream … breathe, she repeated inside a mind that wanted to run from the handsome face staring back at her with Joel’s green eyes, remembering snippets: Backstage. Drugged. Hand over her mouth. Searing pain. So much blood. LifeFlight.
“He served 13 years for raping a minor,” Ralphina said. “She almost died from it!”
“He’s a big Rock Star!” Joel said. “Is that our father?”
“No,” Ralphina replied, relieved she’d not listed the bastard on their birth certificates.
Gosh, this is emotive.

Wow, the panic intermingled with the excitement (and ignorance) of the other characters works well together to create a tense 99 words. Well done!

My God. Cannot even begin to imagine what she would be going through, and what it has taken for her to take charge of her life like this. Powerful stuff.

In book 2 of my series, one of the main characters has a son conceived of similar circumstances who looks a lot like his father. And in subsequent books, I explore how similar traits can be channeled in different ways.

Thanks. I can’t imagine the strength it would take to be her.

Gosh that would be an experience! I think that would rock me to the core. Love the tension you’ve created here.
