99 word #writing challenge : contentment
You can see the Carrot Ranch prompt by clicking here
June 1, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about feeling content. Explore what is contentment and any direction will do. Go where the prompt leads.
<_><_><_>

I live in a dog house and the dogs just let me live here (as long as I feed them)
Contentment depends upon perception.
From age 0 to 20, I experienced a dream many children coveted; to live in the same house with caring parents. I wanted, more than anything, to travel.
At 23, I married. We were in Minnesota for 2 years, then traveled through 5 states, and lived in 9 homes during our first 7 years together. I loved that life.
Widowed at 33, I drifted around in a sea of discontent…until I discovered writing.
I might live in a shack with walls crumbling around me, but as long as I can write, I’m happy.
For now.
Yes being able to write and achieve a half decent sentence is enough isn’t it….

Sorry for your loss! I was also widowed at age 33. I, too, live in a shack with crumbling walls. Hey, at least we have walls, right?

Absolutely correct. We have at least 2 things in common, but I’m terrible at taking care of other people’s children. 🙂

Glad you are contented and writing does that for you. Will look forward to a repeat flash with the next decade or two – my interest is piqued by the ‘for now’ but don’t keep me in suspense forever.

LOL! “For now” is just my way of saying “never say never.” 🙂

Writing is cathartic and glad you found your expression.

Most days I don’t feel content until I’ve written something. Really liked your flash.

I agree with your feelings about writing.
Thanks for reading what my writing addiction has produced. 🙂

This two-stepping between what we expect, what happens and what we accept might be the cycle of life and contentment. Never say never is a great expression of hope. Enjoyed this flash, Joelle!
