DSL down
I’m writing this from work.
.
All writing prompts are on hold until the computing power in my home is back to 21st century normality.
.
The DSL at home is down and might not be back up again until Saturday
…if the entire DSL line doesn’t have to be replaced from the box to the house.
Last time, that took an entire roll of cable.
.
Yesterday, we had a foot of rain. With it came thunder, lightning, and trouble.

.
There were 2 very loud pops and lightning like an incendiary blasts around 4am. The power didn’t come back on until 7:30am.
.
Lost were a modem, a TV, a small laptop and I’m having problems with my computer (the USB drives don’t seem to be working, but I can use the mouse).
.
I’m not anxious to find out what it would be like if there’s an EM pulse and we don’t have electricity or internet for 10 years.
Dang girl! Hoping everything gets righted soon.

Thanks. (I had a break in work and trying to check email and WordPress during those times).

I still remember going through hundreds of miles of countryside with nothing from point A to point B without having a cell phone. That, and the internet were science fiction at the time.
Now, I’m wondering how to live without them.

Know where you’re coming from. The wifi on the marina was always hit and miss, and the
favoured excuse (apart from tough luck) was too many people.

Reason to use a surge protector.

There was a surge protector.

With protection for the phone line? That’s also a part of the scope of protection. Maybe I didn’t catch something… It takes quite a bit of indirect energy to cause an EMP enough to fry everything. I’ve never seen lightning do that except with surges through one of the lines— power, phone, cable, antenna, etc.

Once, I lost a fax/printer/copier, phone, computer, phone line and internet access just from the fact that the lightning hit so close. That was a few years ago. I’ve been without internet access for 4 days and just got back on-line. I don’t understand it all, just that it was quite a hit.

Mmmmmm, a lot of good that mouse is doing for you right now. I know nternet has been restored but no internet or tech does my head in. Cheers,H

I grew up without all the things my children and grandchildren rely upon. Yet as I write that sentence I’m painfully aware that I don’t want to go back to the days where I would have to type an entire page over again if there was a mistake that couldn’t be corrected with liquid paper. 🙂

Damn it! You had to go there! Typewriters!

I still have a manual typewriter somewhere in this house. It was called a “portable” typewriter at the time: It came in a sturdy metal carrier that was the size of a small suitcase and weighed about 30 pounds. 🙂
