99 word prompt : comfort food
May 4, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about comfort food. How can this familiarity influence a story or character? Is it something unusual, like Twinkies from the 1970s? Or is it something from home, from another place or time? Go where the prompt leads.
,-.,-.,-.,
“What are you eating,” my sister asked.
“Dried lima beans and ham hocks,” I replied.
“You know I hate lima beans!”
“You eat cantaloupe in my presence even though you know it smells and tastes like vomit to me,” I said, stabbing a giant Lima with a fork.
“Something is wrong with your taste buds,” she decreed.
“Thank you for sharing a medical expertise that a million doctors with actual degrees can’t match,” I chuckled. “If you don’t like my comfort food, don’t watch me eat.”
The door slammed shut and I smiled, eagerly reaching for my hidden chocolates.
hahaha 🙂

Lima beans? Not sure….but they don’t sound very comforting. But cantaloupe also referred to as rock Elon in OZ. I wholeheartedly agree!

My sister says she thinks its because I was brain damaged at 4 so everything tastes weird. However, I always share my chocolate with her. 🙂

I did like this one, I think writing about food always generates a smile at least when you read of each person’s diet and what they find to be comfort food….good you do share the chocolates…

Ha, ha! Brilliant! Nothing goes better with beans than the ol’ chocolate stash. Great use of dialog. It feels authentically sisterly.

The only thing in my 99 word story that isn’t based on truth is the part about chocolate. I’d share my chocolate with my sister any day. (but it’s funnier the way I wrote the ending). 🙂

You are a great sister! But, yes, the withholding of the chocolate is funny.

LOL Lovely twist. I’ll have to remember that when I don’t want to share my chocolates.

Totally agree about gross cantaloupe. I’ll take the secret chocolates.

Lima beans will never make my comfort food list – probably the thing I hate most!
Great flash, though!
