Stream of Consciousness Saturday : Insomnia
My old friend, Insomnia, is back with a vengeance. She brought along her husband, Indigestion.
Their kids, Exhaustion and Exasperation aren’t far behind, closely followed by their pet, Peeve.
The problem is so bad that I ended up writing a post in Facebook. What’s next, Twitter? Too much like driving the LA freeway for me. There needs to be a social media site called Insta-Grand for people who grew up in an era where computers with 500 kB of memory took up an entire refrigerated basement.
My brain is screaming: SLEEP. My body is screaming: SLEEP. The only thing between me and the next bizzaarro trip to dreamworld is the ability to close my eyes and actually melt into that desired state of oblivion.
My rendition of Insomnia’s pet, Peeve, is this:
That blue thing is my lap. He’s just crawled on it and nudging my hand.
Once those brats Exhaustion and Exasperation are too tired to play, it might drive Insomnia and Indigestion away. Hope it happens before my personal pet Peeve decides to play “knead the human hand with a claw.”
I have those friends too…..they always turn up around 3am and hang around for a while…good luck with getting rid of them..

It’s 2am and I’m still waiting for them to leave. It’s going to be another one of those nights.

I’m sorry to hear that. I have a friend who practices a form of sleep hygiene and that works for her some nights.

Having a routine before going to sleep helps a lot, most of the time. Once in a while there are days…

They love the internet. Maybe this will trick them into settling down: https://youtu.be/Lz41-JtVgOg

I tried that. Just at the wrong time and ad came on. You’d think the ads could be matched better to the music. 🙂
Seriously.
I have meditation music of various kinds that I listen to. When it hits this hard, I end up listening to music in the dark for hours.

In my 40s I used to wake up every morning at 4am. I decided, well, at least I can practice my meditation skills. Letting go of whether I went back to sleep or not often helped me to drift off, but if it didn’t, practicing my meditation skills, with a passive attitude, was better than worrying about everything under the sun and moon. Best wishes!

Yoga, breathing. Yep. Tried that too. Some nights it works. Once in a full moon (or whatever there is to blame it on) nothing works. Talk radio worked this time. 🙂

You gave me a great idea. Talk radio! Thanks. 🙂

Ha! It might just work, depending on the voice and topic.

Keeping in mind I did not grow up with computers either maybe you should quit the screen time? Maybe the fur-distraction is trying to tell you it’s bedtime? Jamima(sob) used to come out all squinty-eyed at around 1am to tell me she had been waiting for me to go to bed. 🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿

Listening to talk radio did the trick last night. That might not be the answer tomorrow. Horror-moan changes can cause insomnia, too. 🙂
