Words are powerful
Just a reminder.
.
TRAINING: Also known as CYA. In the event of a company meltdown, these words are often uttered, “He was trained. It’s his fault the job (that 3 people should be doing) wasn’t done correctly.”
.
Training often begins with the words, “This is how you’re going to do it.”
.
This is what training looks like.

.
EDUCATION: A form of study often used to teach people something called “Critical Thinking.” Sometimes it’s through independent study, other times through OCD (obsessive curriculum desire). Mammals who have the capacity to read and analyze are given the tools to learn how to consider all of the information available and defend their conclusions.
.
This is what education looks like:

.
SUBMIT: This is what slaves are taught to do. It’s also a subliminal message you have to click on when making a computer purchase or filling out an online form.
.
This is what submit looks like:

.
Well…that’s not exactly accurate, but I refuse to publish anything using THOSE pictures.
.
SEND: The act of carrying something from one point to another. When you push the button to send an email, or send information to make a purchase, it’s not like you’re asking permission from your master to sit.
.

.
That’s the button you should see on EVERY website when sending information.
.
Words are powerful.
.
And no matter how words might be twisted, bent or tortured, these words…
.
Training vs. Education
Submit vs. Send
.
…are NOT interchangeable.
.
Next time you’re forced to go to a boring “training,” bring along a box of treats (such as warm gummy bears). Once every 5 minutes throw a treat at the trainer and yell, “good dog!” You might lose your job, and have to go on unemployment for 99 months, but the satisfaction you receive when your best seller is published will last you a lifetime.
Good points. I’d like to hear your take on the word “empowered.”

The word “Empowered” was invented to make people think they need to get back something the inventor never intended them to have.
As you can tell, it’s on my most-hated-words list.

A word that really means, if anything happens it’s your butt. You have responsibilities of a manager without the salary. Of course managers get credit for the good things you do.

Oh how true. The tyranny of CPD training that turns useful learning into a tick box exercise.

Several that I’ve been to were similar to one of the most egregious examples; Live people on the 60 inch screens in statewide conference room reading out of a book to victims that were forced to drive an hour or 2 from home to see it. We followed along with the booklet and I asked, “Why couldn’t you send by email first so we could ask questions?”
“Do you want your mandatory training hours?”
“I have a text reader on my computer. I want answers, not a bed time story.”
“But now you’ve been trained on this subject.”
Good dog. 🙂
